Body Wrap Recipes - Some of My Favorites

Body wraps are beneficial in toning and tightening the skin. Body wraps improve blood circulation and detoxify the body. Body wraps are available in spas; cheaper alternatives include at-home kits and creating your own wrap from a body wrap recipe.

Body wraps result in weight loss, skin firming, target cellulite, and detoxifying. The ingredients in a body wrap work together to produce various desired results. Certain salts are said to detoxify and remineralize; various herbs are said to restore health in numerous ways. Seaweed is known for its skin tightening and slimming properties. The best body wrap ingredients are all natural and 100% organic.

To get the most out of your at-home body wrap experience, warm your room so that you can lie down comfortably and quietly. Light candles, burn essential oils and play some soft relaxation music. Take a warm shower before applying the wrap to open pores. Drink lots of water to help flush out toxins before, during and after the wrap. Have a hot bath a couple of days after the treatment to release accumulated toxins. Avoid caffeine, sugar, fried fatty foods, soda and alcohol for the next 48 hours.

Homemade recipes combine herbs with light compression. Some like to add ace bandages for tighter compression. However, the aim is not for short term water loss from sweating, but detoxifying fat cells and making them smaller. Thus, light compression is sufficient. Simple homemade herbal body wrap recipes blend land herbs, seaweed, aloe and healing salts. Popular herb choices include clary sage, comfrey root, burdock root, dandelion root, rose hips, alfalfa leaf, rosemary and chamomile.

One body wrap recipe combines green clay, olive oil, sea salt, water, essential oils and herbs. Select your choice of herbs and essential oils, such as sage, lemongrass, rosemary, lavender, grapefruit, olive oil, ground basil, rose petal powder, ginger root powder, neem powder, rosehip powder, alfalfa leaf powder. Measure out 1 cup green clay, 2 tablespoons olive oil, ¼ cup sea salt and 2 cups water. Boil the water, stir in the sea salt until it dissolves. Add the olive oil, green clay and selected herbs. Stir until a paste forms and set the mixture aside to cool. Once the paste is cool enough to handle, rub onto your body and cover with towels or sheets cut into strips. Wait one hour before removing.

A second recipe uses cocoa (which is full of antioxidants) to slow the appearance of aging in addition to exfoliating and softening the skin. Combine 1 cup cocoa powder, ½ cup whole milk, and 1/3 cup honey. Brush the mixture onto the skin with a paintbrush and cover with 3-inch-wide strips. Leave for 20 minutes before removing with lukewarm water.

  1. Do you have any body wraps that include grapefruit but are non clay based? - Grapefruit juice not the essential oil. With detoxifying properties, would be a big help.
